In South Carolina a high school senior was asked to remove the American flag from his truck. In response students, parents of students, and veterans all came to the school with American flags displayed on their cars and trucks.

The school retracted their request for the flag to be removed from student's vehicles as long as it did not cause any driving hazards.

Hell yes I'd support this young man. This is getting out of hand. This is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I don't give a damn if our flag offends any one not from here it's our Flag and we shouldn't have to back down to anyone especially those that are not citizens. While I'm not a fan of flags being displayed in the back of pick-up trucks, I do fully support Freedom of Expression and ALL of our embodied 1st Amendment rights. Sounds to me like some school administrators in South Carolina got a Civics lesson.

CPT M Cannonie, I think that the school, teachers, and the administration should stick to educating and student safety. The American Flag is our flag; and our youth should be able to display it proudly.

I firmly believe that someone has the right to display the flag of this nation at anytime that choose so long as the excessive of that right does not infringe upon the rights of another. Being offended by something is not infringement. If someone is offended by the display of flag they simply shouldn't look at it.

Actually it shouldn't be any concern to the school if it is a driving hazard or what is on his personal vehicle. I believe a driving hazard or vehicle regulation would be up to the South Carolina DMV to decide. Either way I believe the school over stepped their authority.

CPT Private RallyPoint Member - Captain; Yes I would. I'd also recommend that he fly smaller flags for safety reasons.

On the other hand, and without intending to be insulting (although some are going to take it that way), I find that the degree to which the flag is flown is somewhat offensive. A used car lot doesn't really need to fly ten flags - one is sufficient if flown sincerely and not merely as an advertising gimmick in an attempt to persuade you that one used car dealer is more "patriotic" than another so that you will buy your used car from them.

The way it's written and the way you present it make it seem like he was told to remove it because it's the American flag, when in fact it was in keeping with the school's policy not to allow any flags at all on vehicles.

Considering that it's policy and was made with the right idea in mind, no, I would not support the student. I'd tell him to follow the rules like everybody else.

After looking at the pictures, I don't see the flag per'se, as a problem. However, the size of the flag could cause a viewing hazard in the vehicle. Those two flags blowing in the wind can cause him to not see what is behind him. Now, I can't actually see if he has them ancored to not fly. If this is the case, the school needs to leave him alone.

Same thing happened with a middle schooler in California on his bicycle. I'm outraged at this kind of thing although I find it suprising to hear about that kind of thing in South Carolina.

I would absolutely stand up for this student. I am just glad they protested peacefully and the school relented on their policy. That is how America is supposed to work.

I would file a formal complaint to the US Attorney office in their region and ask for assistance on the issue.
