Would you try to sway your children away from joining other branches so they would join yours?

I see so many parents trying to mold their children into their vision, especially when they own a business. I watched my cousin grow up resentful because my uncle wanted him to take over the family business and he wanted no part of it. IMHO, we mold are children to know right from wrong, to be good people and to be able to make good decisions. We let them fall so they can learn to pick themselves back up and move out smartly. After that its their life. I will be there to guide them along the way as my parents still do for me.
To quote my favorite rock group of all time:
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you chose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill.
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.

No way. I'd be proud of my son/daughter no matter which service they chose. Each branch has its own personality and culture and I would want them to find the best fit.

I would never sway my children to not join other branches. Just the fact that they joined the military and followed in the footsteps of not only myself, but both mine, and my wife's families footstep would make me proud. We have family from all the branches of military, so they have plenty of influence from multiple sources. I want my kids to live their own life with their own choices, and make a name for themselves, not live in my shadow.
