Would your opinion about the current controversial picture of West Point cadets change, if it was a different group?

Frankly, the group in the photo is irrelevant. The intent of the group it the point.

Good thing they never posted my company's firstie photo of us wearing Togas or we would have all been investigated for being drunken party animals. Remember, these are still college students, regardless of where they are. Sometimes they just don't really think through things. They might need a little talking to, I agree the optics of this don't look good...but in 1988 when I graduated, we didn't have to worry about such things.

Exactly. They need an explanation of what exactly their duties and expectations are going to be and how this action, might not be problematic, but it could be problematic to fostering a command climate where all Soldiers feel supported and included. Bottom line, they are kids. Just like if your toga picture went viral I would expect that someone would explain how young officers in this day have to remember that they support SHARP and foster a command climate that females or males would feel comfortable addressing sexual harassment. The togas might send the message that one subscribes to the frat boy mentality and might not deal with those types of complaints in a professional or swift manner.
It's truly sad that that has to be my answer, but after I was talked to by my commander because of IG complaint I understand the issues that plague these millennial generation. I counseled a soldier for going to the other platoon sergeant about her issues and not coming to her NCO support channel which included me. She took the counseling as I was taking her mentor away, which was not the case, but that's how it was seen. So I now take a very knee jerk reaction to anything that could be construed as wrong to these kids and used against the leaders at another time down the road.

With the current military being how it is, what if it was a group of Latinos flashing signs, or Caucasians flying the Confederate flag, or Asians flying the Rising Sun? Which group should be expelled? Any violation of EO is still a violation. Changing regs here and there is weakening the military and shows a lack of discipline. What kind of an example are these future leaders showing. I would much rather see a toga party where I know my OIC can lighten up. Instead this is a symbol of a radical terrorist organization and a cause for hostile work environment.

By the way, our picture in togas wasn't because we were having a Toga party. It was because we were in company G-1, which was known as the "Greeks." Sometimes a picture just captures poor judgement, not a statement on what each and every member of the photo may or may not believe in.

I don't give ONE SOLITARY FUCK about if so n so did it, or these Soldiers did it. The support a cause that might be dear to them. They might support a cause where one of their brothers, family members or friend was killed. Had they been white and did the same thing based off what I mentioned above? I wouldn't give ONE SINGLE SOLITARY FUCK. Equality for all. BLM is not a political party, not a political arm of a party, they are an activist group. So if I saw a bunch of white Soldiers who were part of Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, or a Frat, I would care about as much as I do now. Hell make a group called WLM. They do just as much as BLM. If I see in uniform, "Feel the Bern" or "Make America Great Again", THEN I'd have a problem. Handing out political flyers, I have a problem, but community activistism? Naw. Not worth the time.
