What is the benefit of this site to you?
Is this a fun place? Another networking site to connect with total strangers who may only exist on the internet? Do I get powerups for coming here? Because I'm gonna be honest here, if I can trade my +100 friend points for getting out of a budget meeting, that would be pretty awesome. What is it that makes this site any different than the others? I honestly want to know because it seems like some people spend a lot of time here and I'm curious to see what I'm missing. Also, I figure posting this as my inaugural "discussion" might clue me in on the ground rules.

Thinking about this, I know RP is billed as pro developement for service members and vets etc... but a lot of what we talk about has nothing to do with personal development, there are many things that are but also many things that are not. It kind of feels like FB for military people minus the "I had a grilled cheese for lunch.".

CPT Brian Holmes I didn't respond to the survey, because there wasn't a survey answer that really completed the whole story about the site. I'm not a member of the board; I'm not an admin type or anything like that. I'm just a retired Colonel working a fulltime job out of the house, commenting on RallyPoint in between work and calls. RallyPoint is definitely a place to connect with former soldiers you have served with. It is definitely a place to make connections for business opportunities (I have). It is a site to work with and help other veterans or active service members with issues, questions, problems, etc. It is a site that I have connected with a few veterans and I'm meeting them up in Sturgis on Sunday, August 2, 2015 (new friends that served). It is a sight that I can help individuals with their resumes and find work. Its a site where can mentor and coach young leaders with leadership information and tools they can use as they progress in their future. It’s a site where I can help an individual on a project to get pictures for all the fallen heroes in the Vietnam War through all the connections. It's linking up with individuals who have similar civilian backgrounds that could lead to new opportunities down the road. It's a place to voice your opinion about what is going on right or wrong in the world. It's a place that you can be the "arm chair quarterback" on how you would run the military or the federal government. It’s a site that provides veterans with key links to perspective employment opportunities and information about veteran benefits. Its a site where active duty personnel can ask questions about certain things they feel more comfortable asking former experts or currently serving experts around the country. I’m sure that I left out about a dozen other things it can provide. Yea, and every once in while there is post that "lightens" up the day! Its what you make it for yourself CPT Brian Holmes

PS. You can other members a "thumbs up" if you think their post or discussion was worth it!

I would direct you to another thread where we discuss the purpose behind RallyPoint, this might be helpful to you. I also suggest searching the threads prior to making any posts as to save time and effort when we may have already covered your question.

Ah, lessons learned before work: 1) one thread per question, research before you post 2) this topic comes up often enough that admins worry about people losing time reading the same post over and over 3) two different admin comments in under a minute: this place believes in active patrolling (this is not snark).

CPT Brian Holmes - While I can't comment for the other admins, I do know that I personally do my best to help ensure that RallyPoint is a place where service members and Veterans can come to find answers to questions. Here you can come to voice your thoughts, concerns, and ideas without fear of judgement. We maintain a strict set of rules covering the interactions that go on here. It is a meant to be a professional site where you are asked to act accordingly. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to any of the admin through a direct message or by tagging us using the @ followed by our names. I hope you find this site to be a benefit to you.
