It's not only the beer, it's the "presentation". I have a two tap kegerator always stocked with our local pilsner and pale ale. An oasis for conducting "cough clinic". Don't have to be a MIL but do have to be thirsty. Damn, it's not afternoon yet.....

I prefer craft beer but it's very filling. If the boys" are coming over we need cheap and light on the stomach. Now if we're just gonna sip on a few and have a cigar or something I'd go with a local IPA or APA like Devil's Harvest from Southern Prohibition.

I buy the beer I drink,if nobody else likes it they can bring their own. I prefer Shiner Bock or Lone Star, or even Pearl when I can find it.

My mil friends are older, more senior O's and E's, so they want the fancy stuff. I made the mistake of buying fancy stuff for my maintainers after a hard month of pushing aircraft turns...and no one drank it. I asked about it and learned my lesson--give the crowd what the crowd wants. In that case it was Bud and Bud Light.

Old college trick...get a case of whatever craft beer you like or looks good. Once they have had a couple of them in them then tap the keg of Shaefer. Most keg beers aren't pasteurized so they taste better cold and off the tap.

I would have to go with Bud Light, it isn't to bad and since you said a bunch it's cheaper and not to shabby. It also depends on who your military friends are and their taste. If I was having a small group of friends over and there was a craft beer that I liked, and knew they would more than likely like then I would get some of that.

Here in New England esp in Boston area, any beer by Boston Brewing Company, Sam Adams beer and ale. Its some good stuff and seasonal beers, all very popular. We have a party Always have some Sam Adams Beer.
