Unless it has recently changed, even an E-4 can retire at 20. NC Guard (Army, maybe @or too) had a policy of promoting an E-4 to Sergesnt at the 20 year retirement point, provided the troop had no. Art. 15 or court martial in the preceeding 5 years. I've seen E-6's on up stay to just shy of their 62nd birthday. Rules on HYT don't apply under Title 32 state peacetime service..

I have seen people retire out at 60yo. And age to receive your retirement pay is age 60. Bad part about it is, there is NO way to collect early, you only get base/post privileges until you hit 60.

Actually the retirement age can be reduced. For every ninety days of qualifying service, you can collect retirement three months earlier. See below for details.
