Senior Leader's Involvement in the Army National Guard
In my career thus far, albeit relatively fledgling, I've yet to see much or any involvement of the Army Cheif of Staff, or the Sergeant Major of the Army within Army National Guard units. I have great respect for those leaders & their positions and could see the benefits to the total force with involvement in units / component outside of what their careers dirived from.
I'd love some insights.
First, is this true, they really don't invest a much interest in the Army National Guard units?
Second, if this is true, then why? Perhaps politically charged tension between the NGB, and DOA?
Or perhaps a lack of respect due to a negative perception, possibly leading to prejudice.
Any commentary is welcome, like I said I'm just looking for insights and opinions.

I'm in the National Guard and I've met both the chief of staff (Casey) and SMA Preston. They have your best interest at heart! You may be paid from a different pot of money, but you're still Army. When they spend time with active duty, that's because the changes that are necessary to active are also, or eventually, become relevant for Reserve and Guard. They're working for you everyday even if you don't see them at drill.

It's that they are not interested - they are whole heartedly - but they have the National Guard Bureau and its leadership and 50 2-stars and their staffs to advise them on NG issues. If there were a major disconnect they would jump in to fix it.

Not to mention with the drawdown they are working to increase the size of the Guard and Reserve since the cost to train and pay reserve component soldiers is 3 to 1 (3 reserve component to active duty's 1) over active duty.
