I have seen it happen: a Corporal was in charge of a Staff Sergeant in the civilian world and it became flip-flopped in the Reserves. It didn't seem to change the battle rhythm, since they were both professionals about it. It just comes down to being able to turn off the switch.

That is what it really comes down to SSgt (Join to see) professionalism. It shouldn't be an issue, and in the Guard/Reserves, it happens fairly regularly.

I've been there before. My Plt Sgt, a Sgt, joined my work and was the lowest in seniority. But he was professional about it and it was a job (security) where seniority wasn't a factor as much as capability and professionalism. I would say it can work out just fine as long as both are professionals and can separate the two, drill and work.

They shouldn't be in the same platoon. You could probably get away with having them in the same company neither of you are higher than a squad level NCO.
