What is the process of switching from AD to NG? How long does it take and how soon do I need to start the process?

Yes, I’m aware I am only a 2LT and have only been in a for a few months now, but my plan is to do my 4 years AD then switch to NG. I’ve been lucky enough to receive a few good civilian job opportunities, but I still want to serve.
I’m currently stationed at JBLM, WA and I want to join a Guard unit in my home state Texas. Figured I’d reach out on here to see what this transitioning process entails.
1) Who do I need to get in contact with on base to start the process?
2) How soon before the 4 years do I need to start the process?
3) How long does the process take?
4) Can I switch to NG before going to CCC?

You will be able to switch once you complete your ADSO. I don't know what specific ADSO you have from your commissioning program, but that's usually your ADSO unless you've recently PCSed, used TA as an officer, or undergone some type of course.
As an officer, your ETS is whatever you request it to be. You will submit a REFRAD packet with your requested ETS, after your ADSO end date, and separate at that time.
Once you're within six months of the end of your ADSO you will contact the Silver Siege recruiter. On JBLM they are in Waller Hall with the Reserve Component Career Counselor team. If you walk in the front door an veer left, they are back there by transition section.

You really do not need to concern with this until a year out. You probably could contact a recruiter in Texas now to get an idea of units and positions but really I would not bother this far out. I highly recommend you complete CCC before transitioning. It will likely be longer on the AD side but generally our AD schools are longer and better prepare SM for leadership and admin roles.

Awesome, thanks! Yeah only reason why I’m thinking about it this far out is because going this route is something I’ve planned since graduating college and already having those job opportunities. Figured I’d get some more knowledge on this before going through it and getting a better understanding. Thank you sir!

What he said...plus, it’s easier to get into CCC while you are active and you don’t have to worry about time away from your civilian employer. I would also consider joining the Reserves. The NG, from experiences of other folks I know, can be much more difficult for promotions considering you have to wait for someone else to promote out of their position, retire, or die. Same thing with the Reserves but you have the option of changing units anywhere in the world. In the NG it’s not as easy to transfer out of the State.

LTC (Join to see) - This comes up a lot, but in my experience, it really depends on several factors. The biggest is how many positions in your branch are available in your state. The second is your rank. As an example, when I lived in Ohio, there was a Separate Infantry Brigade, so promotions for Infantry Officers up through Major did not seem to be an Issue. In Kentucky, there were the Engineers were the Largest units in the state and at least at the time, the same could be said.

As an officer you typically need to talk with an officer strength/accession manager for the state you are looking at. While a national guard recruiter can help point you in the right direction, joining the reserves or guard is usually covered in one of many briefings you will receive when outprocessing from active duty. As for switching before CCC, I don't see why not, that really has nothing to do with it. However if I were you I would try to get every school I can while still active.
