I agree. He was on one of the ranges I visited in California when I was "station" there (cough...cough more liked imprisoned there...LA is the land of fruits and nuts). He had a killer tricked out 1911 and was beating guys in a "steel on steel" challenge.

I admit it's cool to see some recreational shooting. This doesn't translate to combat at all.

I just periscoped up..."doesn't translate to combat at all"????? As an almost 40 year retired veteran, I think you need to look closer at what these competitions do and teach...from gun safety to use of cover. Looking into match rules for IPSC, IDPA,, USPSA, and the various multi gun events and you will find them supporting great "combat" training.

Look, I may be a crusty dusty old Infantry Officer coming out of the Vietnam Era, but I can say the skill sets required to excel as a competitive pistol, two & three gun shooter are applicable to and necessary to survive combat. While it is true the targets are not shooting back at ya, you have to aquire, engage and neutralize targets from some unplanned and uncomfortable positions. You also have to have to maintain trigger discipline and muzzle awareness as you run and gun....granted the stakes are getting DQ (disqualified) as opposed to shooting a team mate.

At 67 years "young" I wish I had these skill sets back in the 1970's when things were really hot. I definitely could have used them on later mobilizations and deployments while in the Reserves, like during the first Gulf War, Bosnia and OIF. Now, I try to stay young by competing....and no there are no videos of me running and gunning.... I do not want you to die of laughter.
