Can I give up an ROTC scholarship to become a CID warrant officer?

As the title implies I'm currently an MS4 in Army ROTC. I still have another year of school to complete, so I'm not completely at the end of the road with ROTC but I'm close. I was talking to a MP Major who told me that at MP BOLC there is sometimes and opportunity to give up your commision and become a warrent instead. My main question is can I jump ship right now and go through that process instead of finishing this last year of school and commisioning? I'd much rather become a warrant where I'm more hands on in my career compared to an officer which is more management related, especially since my end goal career wise is to become a cop/detective.

There was a recent Armytimes article that tells cadets and commissioned officers how to do this. Don’t jump ship without reading it.

Do you have funds to turn back in, there is sometimes a catch to these things. Read the fine print of your contract before jumping ship.

Hello. The answer is no, not like you think. If you do not go from Commissioned Officer to Warrant, you will have to enlist. If you enlist, you will have to go about becoming a Warrant like every other enlisted Soldier. This will take quite a bit more time as you will have to meet the minimum requirements which is usually E5 (or higher) with a minimum number of years of experience. The only quick way to become a Warrant is to become a pilot. Going from Commissioned Officer to Warrant isn't all that easy, but it could be quicker to do than enlisting. Additionally, to get ahead on promotions you should finish your degree while you can. The degree helps your resume when applying for just about anything these days.
