There are really only 2 great duty stations, the one you're going to and the one you just left

Was at Ft. Stewart Ga in 79-80. Loved the Oasis bar just off post, does anyone know if it is still there? Can tell alot of tall tales about that dump like losing my 79 Corvette Stingray had to call MP's, they called back an hour later and told me it was parked at the Oasis bar and it was locked up and the engine was running. Srill don't know how we got home after meeting a couple girls.

All posts are what you make of them. They are only as good or bad as you make them. Some people love some places they have been stationed while others think they were the worst

SGM Frank Marsh - Hey SGM, I was the S2 for the 5th Mech Aviation BDE until they went to FT Hood and were reflagged. Then I became SSO for FT Polk and JRTC until I became the Commander of HHC Ft Polk and JRTC. John Thornton was my 1SGT and I still talk to him every couple of days. He just had back surgery to fuse L3-L5 this last Monday and is back home doing well. I am sure we met each other at FT Polk. My wife was the Post Veterinarian, 91-95, then went to Japan, my nicest assignment except for all the TDY's to Korea, especially after had already done 3 tours in Korea.

I always thought the same until I got to Ft Hood and E-1's through O-5's trying to leave. My TMC buddy had to track suicides and one morning over coffee he told me that as of the 11th of that month there where 13 attempts and 3 successes just in the 1 CAV. The Nations highest shaken baby syndrome (deaths), highest unsolved murders, and I-35 the Nations deadliest Interstate from Waco to San Antonio.

Ft. Drum is my worst one so far, hopefully Bragg will have a lot more to offer.

LTC David Howard - Hey Doc, I think I would say there weren't any bad stations if my Army experience was West Point, Heidelberg, Aurora and Aberdeen. Although I'm sure in your 24 years there was a stinker in there somewhere. I had the good fortune of having good duty stations. Baumholder was #1 and Ft Carson was a close 2nd. But I have spent time (thank God not long periods) at Ft Sill, Ft Polk, and Wildflicken. I think each of those would be horrible duty stations, and in the case of Polk, it is still annually the top one or two worst in the military, not just the Army.

I absolutely loved Drum, yes, it is cold, but amazing training. Definitely takes a certain kind of soldier to appreciate Drum and all it has to offer.

Benning and Bragg my favorites. I’m from the fla,Keys you can keep that cold and wet shit never wanted anything to do with it. There is a reason the state of Washington has one of the highest suicide rates in America. So my worse stations Polk, lewis, drum , lenardwood. Best Ord, hood, Benning, Bragg, rudder.
