Has to be bad for the Coast Guard to try to keep the story under wraps.

Don't jump to conclusions. I know someone who lost his job due to an allegation and his reputation was ruined. It turned out the allegations were false. You know how it works, the bad news gets front page, the retraction gets the back page.
