As always, we Coasties have done more with less, for longer and better than anyone. Today, for a mere $705 million, the Coast Guard will completely replace its decades-old fleet and reemerge with 8 National Security Cutters (which it now has), 25 Offshore Patrol Cutters (we're up to sixteen now), and 58 Fast Response Cutters (21 have been commissioned). The new fleet will continue the heritage of the United States Coast Guard as the world's preeminent maritime law enforcement military. And for less than half the cost of only one Navy destroyer. That's how we make due.

Damn straight. Admiral Thad Allen didn’t wait on no federal government invite. Man took that bull by the horns, and led his Coasties in saving thousands.
