I will be there early next month and this is my first time ever deploying. I'm a reservist and I was just wondering what it was like over there (berthing, activities, food,etc..)

You're in for a treat! Isa is the best base in the Navy! I should know, I am out here now and I hate that I leave here soon! We live in these palace of trailers! We have Chef's w3ho prepare you a gourmet meal! You are seated and they bring you a menu, and Lobster and steak tar-tar are always on the menu! We have showers and toilets in every room, and wifi access is fast and dependable! We are limited to only five 750 ml bottles of alcohol in our rooms at one time, but fortunately there is a great variety on base at the NEX.

They call deployments out here tough, I think they say that so that people back home don't know how good we have it! We now make the NSA per Diem rates, and all of us have either Ford Expeditions or Dodge Chargers for vehicles.

Getting onto and off of base is very easy and straight forward! I have snuck in many ladies and they all can get uBers back to Manama easily enough!

You're going to love it in Isa!

NSA Bahrain was a good stop. I'm on deployment right now and our ship pulled in for almost 2 weeks collectively. Bahrain is what you make it. It can be a great time or a not so great time. If you don't mind experiencing new culture and food and going out to see things then it should be pretty chill duty. If you are closed minded and don't like experiencing other cultures then it may be a difficult time. Either way your deployment won't be forever. Time goes by fairly quickly. Hope it all works out for you.

In my opinion, ISA is a great base to be at, the food was amazing and the berthing was a lot better than most places I've been deployed to. The base however, is small so you can almost never get away from anyone there. If I remember correctly, various units would host 5K runs at least once a month and the Caribou coffee shop on base is a great place to get away and just relax and enjoy an iced coffee. There's also a golf course if you're into that but it always seem I used. The country itself is amazing but small. I've been able to pick out a lot of great deals at the Souq.
