How many "retired reserve" members received a certificate of retirement?

At the point of retirement from active reserve status to retired status [either because of becoming eligible for retirement or mandatory retirement date] each service member has an option to become a gray area retiree which links their retired salary to the active duty salary at the time of their retirement; but, subjects us to recall to active duty.
I have learned from other RallyPoint members that they received Certificates of Retirement from their respective services [US Navy and US Air Force] at the end of military reserve component service.
I expect the US Army and US Marine Corps also provide Certificates of Retirement; but, I have never seen one.

I received a box with certificates, a flag, a coin and lapel pin six months after retirement in 2013. The Presidential signature was that of George W. Bush. For the record, USAR, President Bush had been out of office for 4.5 years. It sort of spoke to the entire 31 year career, though.

Although most who retire at my rank are provided with a great send-off, because I am in the IRR, I decided to perform the retirement protocol officer duties myself. So, I contacted the Army Retirement services office and asked that they request a standard retirement packet (Certificate, POTUS Letter, SecDef letter, Army Chief Letter and Congress/Senate letter), I submitted a request to my Governor and notified my Army Branch Chief of my retirement. I believe that if you don't ask, you probably won't get it because the people responsible for getting these for you don't do their job.

PO1 Robert Moore - Recommend contact Navy Personnel or Navy Retirement Services. If you have a local Navy base nearby, then they can assist. Might check this site as well. http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/support/retired_activities/Pages/default.aspx

I sent 4 e-mails to to the Ft Jackson Retirement Services Office over the last 3 years requesting the retirement package consisting of certificates and flag. I wanted these items for my family as keepsakes since I never got a retirement ceremony or retirement award from my unit. I was medically retired as an O-4 with almost 25 years of service. I never expected a retirement award, but would really like the certificates. What do I need to do from here?

I found out I was officially retired accidentally, when I was looking for something on the HRC website...

MAJ William Lee,
I experienced something similar but not related to retirement. I reported to Baumholder, West Germany in 1989 and in less than two weeks serving at my unit, I received ETS orders. I joked with my fellow Soldiers and said, “I wonder what the Command would have done if I started to outprocess.” :)

LTC Stephen F. long story, but it was ok by me. I was about to drop a packet anyway. The docs had grounded me and taken me off jump status. I wasn’t ready to drive a desk and was going to focus on my civilian career (I retired from the Reserves)
