This isn't a new issue. Regretfully.
24 drill days + 15 AT days = 39 days to accomplish everything the active component does in a year. I will correct the author on aviators. We are authorized additional drill periods called AFTPs (Additional Flight Training Periods). That's generally where we maintain pilot/crew proficiency, AT is where we hone our skills.

Overall the author is right on target. We waste soooooooooooo much time with the trivial BS while at drill. EO, EEO, Sharp, Values, pt, minority of the month celebration, inventories, evals, training meetings, safety brief, car inspections, birthmonth audit, BAH review, inprocessing, outprocessing, quarterly counseling, PMCS, not to mention at least one ppt from hell, etc. The one thing we don't do is train. But all our boxes are checked for the monthly after action report for higher.

I've spent enough time as a commander & S3/G3 to have seen this corrosive pile dampen the spirits of our service members. They joined to work in their specific skill area, not inventory tool boxes before going to a 4 hour block of instruction on LGBTQ pride as a celebration of diversity. When I was a LT, we flew, went to the field, did door gun firing, exercised our vehicles. We trained. Where did that emphasis go (FORSCOM)?
