Can I Direct Commission with my degrees and certifications in Medical Assisting, even though my MOS is in maintenance?

In May I will have 17yrs total time in service and I can NOT do the 3 phase APFT due to a permanent Walk-Only APFT profile. (Which is the ONLY reason I was unable to go Warrant.)

More than likely, if you were rejected for Warrant Officer (I’m assuming due to the fact that you can’t complete WOCS without taking the three event APFT) then you will not be selected for a direct commission. The reason being, you must still attend the Direct Commission Course and Basic Officer Leader Course to be Branch qualified. All require officers to pass a record APFT without profile. Additionally, your packet would most likely be rejected because as a current serving Soldier, they would want to see your current APFT card and all NCOER. You may need to simply accept that you’ll need to retire in three years as an NCO. Good luck.

MAJ (Join to see) Yessir I did. I went in June of 18. I did see the changes that are supposed to happen. We had the "formal" CoA from AMEDD to TRADOC while I was at BOLC in January.
Will be interesting to see how long CCC goes to for reservists. I've yet to see if they have a significant DL portion planned or if the whole course will be resident like BOLC was (for Reserve 70 series)

MAJ Byron Oyler that's unfortunate sir. We definitely don't need fresh officers failing at their first army test. I have noticed that reserve officers in the "short course" can attend with a 705 from their unit, but I hope that will be changing soon. There were quite a few "tape busters" that joined us right before the FTX.

Talking to an AMEED recruiter is your best bet however right now I would not get to excited about the possibilities. DHA is making a lot of changes and looking to slim many medical areas. If you were an RN, even those are slim unless you qualify for a specialty like ER or ICU. If you enlisted right out of HS, you would be young enough to play the waiting game if you cannot get commissioned now. Fifteen years ago a they commissioned an RN at the age of 48 with no prior service. Not happening today but that does not mean when the DHA thing settles out that you won't have more options.
