To any officer who has gone through the STA-21 program in the Navy for any route because since I started college online for an associate's degree but I plan on applying for STA-21 for either Information Professional or Surface Warfare, what is expected on the package to stand out and how competitive is the process? Thank you.

STA-21 is highly competitive and there are few slots available each year. As LT Miller stated, the CO recommendation is the single most important part of the application. However, there are two sets of appraisal boards, an internal command board, and an external board that must be chaired by another CO. There are a lot of administrative requirements for this program and you need to start early in order to be successful. Check with officers in your command to see if any of them were commissioned thru STA-21. They will be an excellent source of help and information as you work through this process.

Good luck!

Pretty much everything you can think of, Steve. You need your awards, evaluations, current transcripts, page 4s, letter of recommendation (from CO). The CO letter is the most important aspect of the package. It is one officer telling a group of officers why you would make a good officer. You should write what you want him to say and then include that with the package. I would be happy to help you with that.
