Hi all,
I get lash lifts and a tint, but recently been told I cannot have eyelash extensions (they are not extensions, the person assumed they were and was politely corrected). Mine are real, but I was curious as to why extensions are not allowed? I feel like I come across females quite often with actual extensions.

Some of these responses are off point and add little. The soldier obviously knows the reg and has stated that they know where to find the information. She simply asked for the reasoning for the restriction. She was wanting to know the why which, helps them develop and grow because now she knows she can stress the reg and reason for the reg when she has soldiers under her. Yes just blindly pointing to a reg is a form of leadership but being able to explain the reason behind the reg brings the point home.

The service is not a damn fashion show, it is about functionality, safety and doing your assigned job.

The idea of eyelash extensions is the ability to have them 24/7 i.e in civilian clothing. Most females don’t desire eyelash extensions for the sole purpose of wearing them in uniform.

A number of reasons.
Uniformity, not fashion, same as why hair dye has to be uniform color and natural color, why nails can't be painted, etc...
Safety, they could fall off and get in the eye (like no contact lenses in field environments), plus if there was a heat flash or fire, they'd probably melt...I'm sure no one wants that in their eye
Distraction, if you are worried about them coming off you aren't concentrating on your job, they may get in the way of eye pro, etc..
Hygiene, like with contacts you want to minimize the amount of crap to get into the eye. Eyes are important.

I would reinforce the point that the eyes are extremely sensitive and being in the profession of arms is not always placing you in the most ideal hygienic situations. Having things that will capture dirt, dust, and bacteria next to your most sensitive exposed organ feels like a bad idea in any situation. I was in a dust storm on my last deployment and you could see caked on moist dirt on top of my eyelashes. Imagine how much would have built up if I was caking more make-up or extensions.
