Great read thanks for posting. Where those aircraft all Bell P-39 Aerocobras on that airfield? They sure looked like them to me.

Thanks Chip. Visited North Pole a couple times while on Alaskan Tanker Task Force (Eielson AFB KC-135 support to Cobra Ball/Eye and F15/F22 strip alert). It is STILL the Last Frontier. Beautiful mountain country.
