Today, 28 years ago, 31 January 1991 I deployed with my Field Artillery Platoon from C Btry and a Platoon from A Btry 4th Bn 29th FA, 8th Infantry Division (MECH) V Corps at Baumholder Germany to Desert Storm. We flew out of Rhein Mein AB in Frankfurt, Germany onboard a DC-9 U.S. Navy Medac Jet to KKMC in Saudi Arabia with a stop at Souda Bay NAS in Crete, Greece. Most of my Platoon was split up and attached for combat operations with the 1st Bn 17th FA, 75th FA Bde, VII Corps. That’s the Bn I served with. SVC Btry 1st Bn 17th FA, 75th FA Bde, VII Corps. Some went to our sister Battalion, the 3rd Bn 29th FA from Baumholder, Germany. They were attached to 3AD. A few went to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the 1st Cavarly Division. WOW. I can’t believe that was almost 30 years ago.
