I am very happy to see a section for us Desert Storm Vets. Well let me say I was attached to 1st Armor Div. and my unit was D co 1st Bn 7th Inf with the 3rd Inf Div. our Brig was 3rd Brig stationed at Ashenfenburg Germany. The goes a little like this, our Brig had finished gunnery and our Brig qualified and a Brig in 1st Armor hadn't and Gen Griffin asked our Col Riley and he said yes so we were alerted to go to war. We loaded everything on the rail and rail headed our equipment to the port loaded everything on ships, and on DEC 26th 1990 we headed to Ram Stein Airbase and loaded up on C 130 and C141 and headed to Saudi Arabia. When we landed the 1st Sgt told me to go and find the buses so off I went and found some buses and we finally made it to tent city. I will continue the story later on. I hope too hear from some of the vets who served with me.

I’m a Desert Storm vet myself. I was part of 1st Armored Division. I was stationed in Bamberg, Germany. Unfortunately, I, like many others, suffer from Gulf War Syndrome, which has severely altered my quality of life.

Know the feeling can remember standing in my Bradley and looking straight at the sun with out glasses or anything else and all the sun look like it was a bright yellow ball setting in the sky, also remember the M8 alarms going off around us almost every night, remember one time when the jet's set them off, after the war and we redeployed back to Germany and about 6 months later we received orders to state side, myself went to Fort Riley KS and I went to Fitzsimmons hospital and they told there wasn't anything wrong with me, that it was all in my head, but I still break out, have PTSD, very bad mood changes, but the VA hospital in Tucson AZ is an outstanding hospital and things are getting better for me. Thanks to the help of the VFW, DAV, and our state rep who has helped with claims, and helping work with the VA.

SFC Tom Jones Yeah, they told us all it was in our heads. I’m so glad you’re getting the care you need.

What’s interesting, I received orders to Ft. Riley from Germany as well. I wonder if that’s where they were sending most of us. Kansas was so boring, got into too much trouble there, lol.

Hey SGT Thompson, have you been able to participate in any clinical research trials and studies? I have found that research has illuminated a clearer pathway in helping with both the VHA & VBA, so they best understand my Gulf War related healthcare needs.

Desert Storm gave us a false sense that wars can be won easily.

Yes Sir I agree with you 100%, but even when we do everything right like when we went back to Iraq we done it in 3 to 4 days and night, but than our ROE went into affect and everyone got blogged down than we left and ISIS came in, if the white house would just let the military go in do it's job and turn things over to the other country's we wouldn't be in the mess we are in. Or just go in and opply the country and to hell with what they want.

SFC Tom Jones - Desert Storm was a proving ground of our new weapons and weapons systems.

SFC Tom Jones - We thought it would be simple in Iraq the second time. We freed them from tyranny but found out we had to build up a nation that was rife with sectarian violence. The oppressed "Shias" became the oppressors and the Sunnis became marginalized. We were remiss in not understanding we would create a failed state with all its trappings.
