On September 6, 1899, Carnation processed its first can of evaporated milk. A short excerpt from the article:
"The Pacific Coast Condensed Milk Company, established by Elbridge Amos Stuart (1856-1944), acquired the plant and machinery and on September 6, 1899, produced the first cases of evaporated milk, called Carnation Sterilized Cream. The company would later change its name and become the world famous Carnation Milk Company."

The memories... I remember well my Grandfather Burr loved the stuff. there was always a can on on their kitchen table and his coffee cup within range. Later I would see the arrival of a pair of Twinkies for his Lunchbox.

SGT (Join to see) Carnation had several ice cream stores around California. Back when, the Carnation Store in Bakersfield was on US Highway 99, the old main route between LA and the Oakland- SF Bay Area. My favorite stopover snack was a Grilled Cheese Sandwich and a Chocolate Malt. When I was last in Bakersfield, it was a struggle to find an off-brand ice cream shop!
