Has anyone had a Compassionate reassignment to a location outside of your grade and MOS? How did it affect your rated time? How did they go about deciding where to place you?

I posted on here a few days ago, but the assignment changed, like all things in the army. I am officially going to Fort Sam Houston.

When you move for compassionate reasons you understand that you are placing your family above your maximum career advancement. Where you get placed is up to the CSM and 1SG of your new unit.
Just because you are not in your grade position or MOS doesn't mean you will be non-competitive. You can still show the board that you are capable of succeeding in any capacity you are use. Senior NCO's are frequently placed in positions outside their MOS that they have little or no experience in and expected to perform successfully. You can show the board and your rater that you are above your peers by quickly mastering your new position, taking on additional responsibilities, and implementing changes that will increase efficiency or morale of the unit. The best things you can put on your NCOER are bullets that quantify how made the Army a better place.
