When people agree to share their genetic data, do they think thoroughly about all the potential consequences? Another issue is that your genome is not only informative about yourself, but also about your relatives who share part of their genome with you. These relatives might not have given their consent for you to share their data and have companies trying to monetize it.

Synchronicity! Oddly, my mother just asked me if I had ever done a DNA test. I told her, "hell no!"

My brother told me the Army (presumeably the entire military) has our DNA on record. And I do recall reading something about DNA research the military does . . . at least some of the commercial companies agree to not use DNA in any way without consent. Proving whether or not they do is a different story.

SFC (Join to see) - I agree. There IS cause for concern. I'm with you PO3 Phyllis Maynard about the evil some are willing to do for any type of personal gain. Most concerning is the potential of science R&D to abuse.

SGT Mary G. - Sometimes it seems like some of the scary movies we saw as kids could actually come true. I remember one a time ago that I forgot the name of: basically 2 supercomputers, one from the US and one from Russia teamed up and took over the world with an efficiency that was scaring.
