This should force the cartel to lower prices much like they did to undermine the fracking industry.

From an economic perspective this makes sense. Long term, my preference would be to use foreign oil and save ours safely in the ground for our future use.

We can do both, drive down costs, bank some while putting some on the market. The big issue as always is the ability to refine it at a decent pace.

And you just identified our major issue. Refinery capacity, years since one has been approved, although expanded existing facilities.

And how many millions/billions are we willing to spend for the clean up of our coastal waters and beaches when the inevitable leaks/spills occur?

I've been trying to post the pictures from the Santa Barbara spill from 2015......can't get them to load. Google them if you want to see what it looks like when oil hits the beach. There is a reason that California greatly limited the amount of off shore drilling on their coastline.

Not too mention the Deepwster Horizon disaster that BP did so much minimize how bad it really was. We need stop spending so much money on fossil fuels and develop solar, wind and hydroelectric which is becoming cheaper and is caused way less damage to the environment.

MSgt Danny Hope - That's the issue when Deepwater Horizon happened the people in charge tried to minimize the damage that was caused and tried to shift the blame like it wasn't their fault.
