I don't like when I read an article that discloses every bit of information that the unit I'm deployed with is doing.

I'm deployed with the B-52s from Barksdale and there are several articles (that I'll try and post in the comment section) that disclose unecessary bits of information that involve our mission that are readily available for the general public to read. They say how many personnel members we're deployed with, our unit info, how many aircrafts we came with, what our mission entails, and where we're going next. Then the other articles that talk about where we're going straight up call out ISIS. "Hey we're coming for you and here's how we plan to do it. Here's what time we'll be there, which types of missiles and bombs we're bringing, how many hours we usually fly.."

It's TOO much information.
I'm still only a SrA so maybe I sound paranoid. Please educate me and tell me if its not stupid to basically give terrorists our game plans on how we think we're going to defeat them.
I know there's obviously much more Intel that we don't give out that's too secret and classified but I just don't think writing articles with that much info is necessary.

Loose lips sink ships. You are not wrong; whoever disclosed operational information during wartime is traitorous as well as wrong.

You are absolutely right. I'm also at Barksdale AFB and I seemed to have noticed that we're too eager to show the public what we're up to. I think we should also be a little more sensitive to the info we disclose.

I showed two friends of mine the articles and they were both like "well, I'm glad ISIS knows we're coming for them".
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. We might as well call them up on the phone and tell them when to greet us on the flightline.

Yeah I think the leadership really wants to put Barksdale on the map now that we have Gen Rand but good on Col Goodwin she obviously wants to make some power moves to get the base the funding it needs.

Always remember OPSEC, which apparently you are very mindful since these articles are troubling you. Always remember that most information is dished out to reporters via the PAO. Now, I said "most." If a reporter asks enough of the right kind of questions to the right amount (and type of) people, then they can easily deduce and put together enough accurate information. And, the reporters should have gone through the PAO to see of the article was safe enough to print. And perhaps, these articles were vetted by the PAO/S2/S3 and given a green light. Honestly, news stations and news articles have always troubled me when troop movement is broadcast and printed. While I was in Iraq, we were always stressed to about OPSEC and how Big Brother was watching and listening to our comms to the home station. If ANY kind of specifics were given over the phone or email or FB, then arrivals/departures were delayed. I knew of one unit whose departure from theatre was kicked back 90 days because someone put on FB when they were heading home. Since this is troubling you enough, bring it up through your Chain and voice your concerns. You may very well produce change. You never know until you try.

Thank you for that comment. I'm glad there are others who feels a bit trouble over how much detail is put on on troop movement and such.
