I am an OIF veteran and am in need of other veterans who have served in OIF/OEF to take a survey to share their thoughts on barriers to mental health care. It is completely confidential, and will take up to 30 minutes. Though, most have compelted it in roughly 15 minutes. Go to http://www.militarysurvey.org to take the survey.

My goal is to help the mental health field better understand barriers to care and to help those who need it get it.

The biggest barriers are this constant questioners / surveys, because it makes me feel like I once again have to prove that I need the help I am asking for.

SPC Corey Pieper - So why do we need research to help.

In my opinion the reason is because too many people are not getting help. If research comes out and addressess issues something can be done about it. I deployed 10 years ago and the issues I faced are still there. This is my way to do what I can being a veteran and in the mental heatlh field. I wish it were as easy as asking or help and getting it. I would rather not know there are others who need help and are not getting it. This survey will shed light on some issues that are/have not been addresssed.

SPC Corey Pieper - I was around to help the Vietnam Vets and served from 1974-2015, you need to first go back to the studies from WW11 to present time, he biigest factor is evaluation by book worms that have not lived that life.

That may be, however I have lived that life and am doing something about it. The great aspect of it all is no matter how many issues get in the way, what I am doing is important and informed by experience. All I need is to have those willing to share their thoughts in a relatively brief and confidential survey to help others. I will continue becuase those who have served deserve to be taken care of.

First getting over what you believe is the stigma attached to it. Once you do tat, getting your Chain to back you on it for appointments.

The number one barrier is realization and accepting the need to activate external resources to deal with distorted mal adaptive thought processes.
