The article didn't mention "storming". The amphib movement is still an organized and efficient way to reposition men, material and heavy equipment from ship to shore with defined command authorities. Not everything can be moved by air. It's valid if the situation demands or allows it and the Osprey with its penetration capability has added another dimension to it.

LtCol Robert Quinter Solid point, sir. Recent humanitarian relief efforts domestically, Haiti, Philippines, Singapore, etc. are perfect examples when ship-to-shore operations were the only method to operate, as the infrastructure of the affected area couldn't support an air drop/lift capability.

No surprise that the USMC is insisting that storming a beach is still a military option PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. Littoral water zones off Asia and Africa as well as parts of South America are well suited for storming beaches if needs be .

Best to have people trained and ready to go for this sort of thing.......you never know when it might become a viable option again. There could be areas of the world where access through the beaches is a better option than insertion by air.....especially if you want to get large numbers of troops on the ground as quickly as possible.
