David Brooks: Teachers’ Unions are Damaging Minority Students the Most
From David Brooks: The children who are attending aren’t learning much. A Stanford study suggested that the average student has lost at least a third of a year’s worth of learning in reading and three-quarters of a year’s worth of learning in math. The Chicago public schools union is on the verge of an illegal strike, even though 130 private schools and 2,000 early learning centers have been open safely since the fall. Then comes this: … this situation is especially devastating to poorer Black and brown students. Many affluent kids have fled the public school disaster for private schools. It’s Black and brown kids who live in cities with progressive mayors and powerful unions, and those are the places where in-school learning has been closed down (NY Times). Meanwhile, an irate parent in Virginia blistered the school board and the video went viral (The Blaze).

A lot of people who are educated tend to lean towards academia for all of their answers. Unfortunately, we know or should know that statistics can be another form of lie.
The same data that tells us to buy a lessor quality product for 4.99 when a better quality product right next to it listed at 5.00 can also be used to manipulate people to believe certain "trends" without realizing they are being manipulated.
Marketers buy premium shelf space in stores using real data, not sample data, to put their products in conspicuous places to appeal to impulse buyers. Statistics/polling can be used for good and evil easily by manipulating the sample size, location and data.

One item is a fluke, two an anomaly, but dozens of examples over decades is not just a pattern it is a PLAN.

Some schools are talking about limiting teachers to online teaching, reducing the number of teachers by over 50%. Making substitutes the one to control the students. I've talked to several teachers that are now concerned about this occurring in their district!
