I would say you cant go active till you complete your time as reserve, than go active.

Anecdotally I saw it at, interestingly enough, the same AIT as yourself. However, this was back in 2010 when the war was going particularly strong and recruitment was high.

Is it impossible? No. Is it probable? I would guess not so much right now. With that said, don't give up hope! Finish AIT and see what your options are going forward. If you really want it, you may only have to wait a few years before applying for something.

You must get a conditional release, but usually you must give your first unit at least 1 year of service.

SGT (Join to see) - Makes sense. If you want it well enough, good way to make sure you're slightly vetted at least.

LT, one other thing I left off about it was the reserves are all about numbers. If your are attached to a RFX unit it is nearly impossible.

SGT (Join to see) - Right, we experience this strain when it comes to Chaplains wanting to switch to AD. Totally understand ya.
