Prior Service, leaving for AIT mid August. 35G. I've been trying to do a lot of research on what to expect and I've learned a lot. But what I don't know, so far, is what to expect from AIT as a Prior Service E-4 with a family in Florida.
Since I will be separated from my wife and kids, what can I expect out of BAH?
What can I expect as a whole from AIT? What am I able to bring with me from home and what SHOULD I bring?
How long is the hold to pick up a class at the moment? The class is roughly 6 months, as I've seen so far.
I just kinda wanna know what I'll be experiencing, roughly, if that makes sense?

When I went through AIT as a 35 series the prior service or reclass soldiers were expected to help the Cadre with class leadership while in the class room. They generally didn't have to play the same song and dance new soldiers had to go through. They were also in separate housing from the new soldiers. They were there every morning for PT, and bounced once the formation got to the barracks after class.

In regards to class work, well everything you do is in a classified environment, and all your assignments will be classified. Which means.............. you have to do all work in a SCIF. Which means there is no last minute cramming to complete an assignment because you are NOT doing anything from home. You either get it done in class, or during operation of computer lab time in the classified areas.

Your advantage will be not having to drag a battle buddy along with you to the computer lab. However, it is probably possible to complete your extra assignments while in class if you plow through your class based assignments (this is the route I chose and maximized each minute I had in the classroom SCIF so I didn't have to go in during the weekend or the few hours the lab was open in the evenings).

SPC (Join to see) - The LT was spot on from my experience re-classing, but of course things change over time and I went through when Jesus was a CPL. BTW, as a 35G get every single ASI you can. Train your eyes to see every type of imagery you can, and of course in general as a Soldier, never ever turn down a leadership position, but don't be afraid to turn down things not related to leadership or your MOS if allowed to do so. Chances are you'll be going overseas if you haven't had an overseas tour I'd really recommend 3rd MI at Cp. Humphreys Korea. You would probably get the opportunity to be a crewmember on the ARL-M. It's a great post now, not like when I got there initially and the PX was from the Korean War era. By the time I left it was the nicest post I'd ever been to. Korea btw, is a great place to either get a lot of opportunities or destroy your career, your choice. Make good decisions and this MOS will take you far. Just realize also that when you get out the places you can live due to places that offer that as a job are very limited, so retiring with a military pension on hind-sight is a good way to go. The pay can be excellent and the satisfaction fantastic, but don't expect to live anywhere you want and still do that job. Of course there are opportunities to deploy as a civilian and make the real big money at times, but contractor work is not secure which is one reason it pays so well. Becoming a government employee afterwards is often a more secure option. Another great unit to go to, if you ever get the chance, is with a CMSA, but those slots are very competitive. I got a by name request for one, which is why I managed to get that slot as my last duty assignment before getting out.

I believe if it is not a PCS move, you will receive BAH for the location of your family. Take a computer with you, preferably a laptop. Call the school to figure out when your class will start.

Ft WoGotYou is not a big base. Bah will be based on Duty location not location of family. As what to bring since you are prior service I will say bring Motivation, Leadership, Good Habits, Do not bring an attitude. New soldiers will be looking up on you and if you are not at the top of your game they will see that too. Good luck.
