I’m glad that the powers at be decided to bring Drill Sergeants back to AIT. Discipline was lacking with some new recruits arriving at their first duty station.

The funniest part of that statement - they took drill sgts out of AIT because the discipline at their first duty station was lacking because there were no drill sgts at their first duty station. Get rid of drills and go to AIT Platoon Sgts so that the incoming new soldiers didn't look for a hat for orders instead of regular NCO's. Now they want drills in AIT so that there is strong leadership. Does that reflect on the status of NCO's at the regular army units as being weak??

It shouldn’t have but it depends on the unit that the Soldier was assigned to.

Was the problem at the first duty station the lack of Drill Sergeants or that some NCO's were not doing their job?

See, this is something that I never really had to deal with. Scouts attend OSUT and thus have drills throughout their entire training period. My guys had been tortured just a bit more than the POGs that we had to work around.

Kilos and deltas are very different. And far from a POG job.

OSUT now relies on reserve component drill sergeants too.

Finally...it is about time! Development doesn't stop at military skill sets alone.
