If you are a responsibly armed citizen, I am going to recommend in addition to @ the NRA, you look into joining the "United States Concealed Carry Association." The periodical and web articles are extremely informative and focused on what you need to know about personal and home defense, particularly if you carry concealed. Depending on membership level, you get access to extensive legal defense resources and benefits. In today's increasingly dangerous world, the additional training materials are extremely useful. Bottom Line - joining is worth the relatively low price for protection and support USCCA supplies.

I'll have to look into that, for sure. Right now, I have a CHL from Arizona but I want to be able to teach the classes here in Texas. I just did all of the paperwork for my Texas LTC (License to Carry) and I am about to take the NRA Pistol Instructor course to get that certification. Then, I will be able to get certified by Texas DPS to teach the LTC course here.
I love teaching people how to shoot, especially handguns (qualified expert 50 out of 50 every time in the Army). I finally got an opportunity to do it and make money at it. So anything else I can add to it, I am definitely open to check out.

Kentucky has a similar process for instructor certification. A resource you might want to use for teaching women how to shoot is "Keeping The Piece - Defensive Handgun Training for Women".
