Which unit are you going to? I am surprised you are not going to 902nd.....you should have SGM Crawford hit up the BN CSM of the BN you are going to so you can get a sponsor.

SSG (Join to see) In the mean time, this is the Housing office number: [login to see] . I don't know if any other post offers housing below BAH but, you can ask them about their "market price" housing. I'm saving a couple hundreds a month living on post. And, just in case you can't get in contact with 704th for sponsorship here's a good link: http://www.ftmeade.army.mil/directorates/dhr/mpd/sponsorship.html they are really helpful.

Great info, thanks again. The whole in-process post after in-processing the unit is kind of unique, I've never been at a duty station where you go to the unit first.

SSG (Join to see) this is my very 1st unit station so, I have nothing to compare it with. It was a complete different experience for me, coming directly from PR, but I got to like it here. Hope it works out good for you too, if there's anything else you think I might be helpful, just let me know. Have a great day SSG!

SSG (Join to see) Like CSM Carl Cunningham, I'm a little surprised they're sending a CI Sergeant to the 704th BDE. I did read someone else's post that they were a CI troop at one of the sister sites in Georgia as the SSO. That still doesn't make much sense to me, but if they got those slots approved, then I guess that's what they need. I was assigned to the 704th (742nd BN) as a 97G, went to the Gulf War, then to Korea, and came back as the Battalion CSM for a CI Battalion in the 902nd, also on Ft. Meade, which is two battalions of almost entirely CI Soldiers. That's why it's odd to see a CI troop assigned anywhere on Ft. Meade other than the 902nd.

You'll enjoy it here. There is a lot to do in the area. You're close to Baltimore and D.C. and all their semi-professional sports, like the Redskins, Ravens, Orioles, Wizards, and so on. Concerts all over the place, Sailing, boating, parks, history, great food - we've got it all. OTOH, it's crowded and the cost of living is a little high. The housing on Meade is very good with the new privatized housing program they've been working under. So you'll enjoy it! Stay in touch with me if there's anything you need.

SGM, from the very little information I've gathered, there is one position within the BDE HHC for a SSG/35L, but that position is not within the S2. That's according to the 2016 MTOE on FMSWeb. It appears to be a delegate entity whose personnel are assigned to HHC but work in a elsewhere, doing less advertised things.

Interesting. That's not very normal out of the Brigade HHC - those kinds of positions usually come out of the operational battalions. I'll have to call a couple of my buddies in the building and see what they know about it. This could be part of the Army Cryptologic Office, or whatever they're calling it now. They had a big push for all the Service Cryptologic Elements (INSCOM for the Army) to build up offices in the building to be a sort of forward-based component element. This might be part of that. I'm very curious now. I worked with the civilian CI folks quite a bit and got to know many of them.

I'm retired now on a disability as a civilian (from Gulf War Illness), but I'm still fully cleared, have a badge, and visit on occasion to do a little work over there.

You are probably going to be in the unit's S2 section. If I was a betting man, that would be my bet. I was at the GA subordinate of where you are going and I as the Sr. CI Agent was the Army SSO for the site. It's a great assignment with plenty of opportunity to make connections. Should you need some connections email me on global and I will pass some names to you. These folks are more than willing to help you in your endeavor there. When you have time look me up on global and I can provide you more info.
