I'm going to repeat myself. I just posted the following in another discussion thread inspired by a post about observations of Iraqi soldiers. I'm repeating the same comment because it applies equally here as well as there...

Thank you for these insights. Once upon a time we had a Fourth Estate, journalists dedicated to providing factual information about current events. Now we must depend upon each other. Someone at the scene of an incident recording video on a cellphone and posting it on YouTube. Someone fighting in a conflict or fleeing among refugees writing emails, tweeting, and sharing on other social media events as they unfold before their eyes. We the People are now accidental, citizen journalists. Those who pretend to be professional journalists are now shills, propagandists, and commentators.

CPT Jack Durish Thanks for your insight on this. It is sad how we have gone from news outlets that were about providing information to a money making entity that pushes an agenda, whether that be social, political, or something else, it is all about the agenda.

If they would send over a large group of vets, we could have this sorted in a week or two. Although it seems a form of vigilantism I can't fault the man for what he is doing.

SrA Chris "Shadow" McGee I have never been to Iraq, but it seems to me that in the areas where ISIL has control, there is little in the way of law, therefore it would be hard to call it vigilantism. I agree, you can't fault the man for taking a stand.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - True, it is only vigilantism by our standards, not by the local ruling "laws"

SFC George Smith I agree that it is an interesting insight. I certainly hope that the article is wrong where it states "It is troubling to think that combat, and really, life and death, are now spectator sports for anyone with a smartphone and good cell reception."
