Looking at Fort Sam Houston as a potential PCS option. I’m looking for anybody out there that can provide insight from their personal experience on Fort Sam, the surrounding areas, what there is to do, the unit(s) the installation, pretty much anything. I’m a 35N (SIGINT Analyst), who’s currently stationed at Fort Bragg, so I’d really love to hear from other intel personnel, especially in regards to the units there, but I’m open to any and all’s input, military/non-military related.
Thank you in advance!

It is down to to the BN you end up going to. Opposite sides of the city, different mission set, therefore different job/experience for you (I experience both). San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the country, that will give you an idea what you will have available, but like anywhere else you go, you make it your own. Outdoor activities are plenty, if you like music and night scene weekends in Austin are a blast, Houston less than 3 hours away, Dallas less then 4, Fort Hood about 2 hours away (For training, you will understand when you get there). It is hot, hot! year round, maybe 2 weeks out of the year you will have a break from the heat. As SFC (Join to see) said, many are wishing to get orders to be there.

If there is an opening for Fort Sam, you had better take it before it’s gone. Everyone else in the Army who’s eligible to move is eyeballing that assignment as well. There are some things that when offered you don’t have the luxury of thinking over because they’ll be gone to someone more certain and determined.
Good luck and hopefully the slot is still there

NSA-Texas will be a great gig -- I went from 3rd SFG to Field station Panama then NSAW. Realize that the mindset of the organization is different. Lots to do in San Antonio also
Have fun and enjoy.
