My granddaddy was in the Polar Bears. In Russia! (31st US Infantry)! He took a discharge in 1920?, cuz, “the Army is going to Hell in a Handbasket”! Brick = SGT CHARLES J HAYDEN, WW I at the Patton Museum, Chiraco Summit, CA. 25 miles East of Indio, CA

Interesting. My dad was in the 339th Infantry (Polar Bears) in Italy, WWII. He was also in the Polar Bear Association of WWII and served as a past President. It was in their bylaws to “disband” when the numbers got down to a set level (occurred in 2008). The Polar Bears of WWII set up a monument in 1992 dedicated to the 85th ID (338th and 339th) which is located in Camp Shelby, MS. Dad passed away Sep 29, ‘17 (age 92).
