They have scorpions in Hawaii? I did see a few of them big a** centipedes that had the wicked nasty bite.

PO1 John Johnson Working in a SPINTCOM We Use lots of Paper, We had a Storage Warehouse in Makalapa Crater, Dark and Cool and Full of Scorpions. Picking Up Paper or Loading Paper in there was always "interesting".

Yikes! I had no idea scorpions were in Hawaii. I got stung by one of those as a child when digging potatoes. I'm not sure if most people from SC realize there is a species of them native to SC. Southern Unstriped Scorpion (Carolinianus) They hurt. My parents didn't really believe me. They said it was the pine cone in the dirt, but the neighbor believed me. It was his garden. There was no Google back then to prove it!

PO1 Sherry Paschal I remember Moving some Boxes of Paper in the Makalapa Crater Warehouse and One of the Girls Screaming. I Didn't Known What She was Screaming About So I Dropped the Box. Heard a Crunch as I stepped back Picked up My Boot to see a Scorpion I Stepped On "Was that what You were Screaming About?" "Nope There was One on the Box You had Picked Up". Carefully Picked the Box back up to see She was Right Squished Another One When I Dropped the Box On It.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Wow! I'm a Volunteer Nature Interpretive Guide with the Colorado Parks & Wildlife Service now, so I've learned to be less startled by snakes, spiders & such, but I think unepected scorpions & giant centipedes still warrant a hissy fit. I found one of those centipedes in my house in Okinawa shortly after treating a patient who had an unexpected run-in with one in his bed. I smashed it to smitherines under the rug. I never saw any scorpion there though.
One thing that will forever cause me to scream & run away like a little girl is .Palmetto bugs (those big cockroaches). I detest things that fly at my head, get in my hair, appear out of a drain, etc. We had them in Okinawa, where I grew up in SC, and they're everywhere I ever lived or visited East of the Mississippi, south of Deleware I think Texas has them yoo. Ick!
They're a small reason I chose Independent Duty Corpsman as an NEC vs Preventive Medicine Tech. I still had to learn a lot of the PMT responsibilities, but thankfully never had to preform any solo pest control surveys or galley inspections.

Ewww! I hope they stay in Okinawa. Their 8-12 cm creepy, ugly, stinging, bugger cousins were disgusting enough to deal with, especially in my own house in Futenma Housing. I always felt so badly for my patients who had a run-in with the creatures. I can deal with most insects and creepy crawlies, but not centipedes, milipedes, earwigs, or roaches, especially the flying kind! Ugh!!
