Will I get BAH for my dependents if they stay in the US, while I am residing in barracks OCONUS?

I have projections to Germany for 36 months. My dependents want to stay in the US. I've heard you don't get paid BAH while residing in government quarters. How about family sep. allowance?

When I was assigned to Cairo, Egypt my orders stated "unaccompanied tour for 18 months" and "family to remain at the current duty station in JBER, AK". I received BAH and COLA for Alaska while I was in Cairo.
The key is that it is all spelled out in the orders.

You will get BAH for your family's location. If they live on post, that BAH will go to housing. You will be placed in government quarters if they're available.
I don't think you get family separation because you aren't being separated from your family, you're choosing to leave them, unless it's a dependent restricted tour. Not 100% sure on that though.

36 months is usually for accompanied tours. Does your orders state deffered travel or concurrent? If you are making the decision to not move your family even though you are authorized, you will not get the BAH in the US for your dependants. Also, depending where you going in Germany, you will have to live in the barracks.

1SG, I haven’t gotten orders yet. I only got EPMD message that says it’s a 36 month tour, and says my dependents have to go through efmp screening. It doesn’t clearly state whether it is accompanied or not.

SSG (Join to see) you choose whether it's accompanied at your levy briefing.
The accompanied and unaccompanied tour lengths are listed in the JFTR Appendix Q.
The briefing requirements are laid out in AR 600-8-11 Reassignments.
IAW AR 614-200 Enlisted Assignment and AR 614-30 all overseas assignments are accompanied unless otherwise stated.
You are entitled to BAH for your family while you are overseas. In fact, the most common case for CID overseas is BAH fraud for people claiming BAH for spouses in high BAH areas like San Francisco and DC.
I also know that you will receive BAH because I received BAH while overseas. I know that you will be able to choose an unaccompanied tour because my job as a Career Counselor is to brief people on these facts when they reenlist for OCONUS duty assignments.
Also, if you choose the unaccompanied tour for Germany it is 24 months. If you choose to bring them later your tour will convert to 36 months.

SSG (Join to see) rgr. I understood that you had received your orders. You will be able to make that choise at the levy brief. However, talk to the family and consider the future. Germany is very nice, and there is a lot to see and do. Most families tend to love it.
