I remember all of us on my block would open the fire hydrant and play in the water, buy ice cream from the truck, and block off the street and have a party.
I also remember the times I fell off of my bike and had to get up dust myself off, and keep on going. (because there was no crying) You would have to come in the house if you cried for falling.
I remember playing ding dong ditch and prank calling.
I remember hot coca in Chicago on those cold days we would use our toboggan sliding down the hills in the snow.
I remember the love from the neighbors during Halloween (thanks Mrs. Jackson for all the candy)
I remember the half an hour limit to the television. My father would say "go play your guitar and read your books."

Those were the good ole days!

Children be able to play freely outdoors knowing that neighbors would look out for neighbors and protect each others children.

My neighbor who was my favorite was Mrs. Jackson. She lived at the end of the block. My neighborhood buddies would go to her house and she ALWAYS had ice cream.

I never had to worry about any harm coming to us for going in each other's homes.

And when you messed up as a kid, your Mom knew about it before you got home. The Mom hotline was fast.

We would play war games, swimming at the lake, football, target shooting (this is what happens if you have 4 brothers)....all day and the only time our Mom looked for us was when it was dinner time (getting dark).

When the beach was the only thing that mattered to my friends and I... and EVERYTHING was just a means to an end so I could go surf! Ah, the good ole days...
