Chernobyl Disaster 1986: What really happened?

Great share. Had an IT contractor at our company who was from Chernobyl, he was a kid at the time but has interesting stories about how his family was evacuated and ultimately came to US.

If you have not seen it the HBO Miniseries Chernobyl was really good.
Recently finished "Midnight in Chernobyl" on Audible also really good.
From the book the Soviets built a new modern city for the power plant employees and their families since Pryp'yat' was too heavily contaminated even after cleanup attempts. However they didn't bother to test the site of the new city until after they completely built it. Testing showed it to be as contaminated as Pryp'yat' so it was never inhabited.
