Red Cross verifies the authenticity of the message pretty quickly, usually less than a day. However, it’s the commander discretion on what to do. Death of a spouse grandparent does not meet emergency leave criteria

I don't understand-1. You are showing as a civilian- so travel, time off is on you- even overseas within limits. 2. Emergency Leave like ALL leave is up to the Commander. Normally grandparents do not fall into the criteria for emergency leave. 3. RC will verify within 24-48 hours anywhere in the world.

I’ve seen soldiers deployed and not deployed rejected for Red Cross messages regarding the death or a grandparent.
