Donut Dollies were American women hired by the Red Cross to serve in-country during the #VietnamWar. They had recreation centers in many large base camps and visited troops on firebases - providing a distraction from the war.

They also were quite prevalent in hospitals too -- at least 24th Evac where I was treated.
