Fermilab is America’s premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and South Dakota and locations around the world, including Canada, mountaintops in Chile, and the South Pole.
Fermilab is seeking outstanding Survey or Geodetic Engineer (Geodesist) candidates to join the Alignment and Metrology Department in the Particle Physics Division. The position is based in Batavia, IL and will require working onsite periodically each week.
It is the task of the Alignment and Metrology Department (AMD) to support the construction of new beamlines and experiments and to perform maintenance for the existing infrastructure by positioning the beam guiding components within their tolerance specifications. Therefore, the AMD utilizes state-of-the-art survey equipment such as GPS, laser trackers, scanners, photogrammetry, CMMs, gyroscopes and high precision electro-optic distance measurement devices to provide a Fermilab-wide control network on a large scale and support magnet-to-magnet alignment on a smaller scale.
