Fermilab’s Finance Section seeks an Assistant Payroll Manager to join our dynamic team. Under minimal direction, the successful candidate will assist in directing and coordinating the daily operations of the Payroll. Analyzes and interprets financial information and executes control procedures exercising independent decision-making and may lead and train other accounting personnel in the Payroll Department.
You Will
Prepare complex financial statements/reports for management, the Department of Energy, taxing bodies, and others within or outside the Laboratory.
Develops and interprets complex ad-hoc reports and analyses to respond to information needs of management and others within or outside the laboratory
Coordinate and supervise highly complex payroll processes.
Analyze complex problems or discrepancies and executes corrective action or provides supervisor with analysis and recommended action.
Assume responsibility for the overall payroll department in absence of the manager
Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position

We Are Looking For
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of in-depth payroll experience
CPP Certification (Certified Payroll Professional) from American Payroll Association is highly recommend.
Significant management experience and expertise supervising and leading payroll staff
Knowledge of multi-state payroll tax laws, tax reporting, State and Local Employment regulations
Experience in pay processing for weekly and monthly payrolls
Experience with non-profit organization regarding state taxation is a plus
Experience working in a federal regulatory environment is a plus
Ability to understand and learn the Interfaces In/Out of PeopleSoft and reporting requirement that span between several software systems for human resource data, accounting data, and Kronos timecard data.
Ability to use discretion when working with highly confidential information including wage garnishment and child support reporting
Ability to set priorities and handle detailed, compliance driven work with a high degree of accuracy
High degree of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure, meet regular deadlines and balance multiple priorities simultaneous
Available to work in office and shadow existing payroll manager as training for the job.
Relocation is available for this position
