As the Navy reviews job titles that include “man,” the days of the Naval Academy’s midshipmen may be numbered. Students at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, may see the end of the long-standing rating, midshipman.

PO2 Mark Saffell, Political correctness has gotten way out of hand. I hate being told what to say, and how to say it. Maybe the new Secretary will be ballsy enough that it bothers him/her enough to change it.

I'm a woman. If I were a student in the Naval Academy, I'd be very proud to be called a midshipman. Our granddaughter followed my footsteps into the Air Force & is doing well, just beginning @ her duty station. She is an Airman. So was I. & SHE won't be the maid!

Jennifer Lee (Doerflinger) Hill edited, I was a radio opr, not a maid, but my supervisor thought women should be barefoot & pregnant or a nurse.

Nothing is sacred before the almighty altar of Political Correctness. Sure, why not? Lay waste to two millennia's worth of tradition.

Sad isn't it. They better not get rid of airman and call us air-people. I've only got a few more until my 20 and I am happy about that.
