I want to join the AF Nurse Corps. I am active duty in the AF right now and I am applying for the NECP program of the AF this year. However, if that does not work, I want to see how else I can make that happen. Anyone have experience with this? I thought of separating fully next year, finishing my degree, and then starting the process to return. The other option I considered is to go Guard/Reserve while I finish the degree. However, I do not know how/if I could transition to active duty from there.

I completed my nursing degree during off duty time while enlisted on active duty in New Jersey, not for the faint of heart, but doable if you are committed. I have no regrets.

You can contact the AF healthcare recruiter in your area and apply for the Commissioned Officer Training (COT) Program. This is a direct commissioning program for doctors, dentists, nurses, lawyers, and chaplain. It is very competitive, but those that are selected are sent to Maxwell AFB for a 4 week officer indoctrination. This program is separate from the Basic Officer Training (BOT) Program which is for line officers
