"On June 18, 1918, Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Peyton C. March announced the 32nd National Guard Division, made up of soldiers from Michigan and Wisconsin, “is now fighting in Alsace on German soil.” With eight battalions on the frontline and four in reserve, they have been on duty as part of the 40th French Corps, clashing almost nightly with German patrols." Need to note that March AFB (now March Air Reserve Base) is named after his son who was killed in an aircraft crash.
